Ferruh Karamangil is a practicing pharmacist, medical pharmacology researcher, and the host of Farmosfer, a weekly Turkish-language podcast exploring where pharmacy practice meets artificial intelligence, digital health, and medical cannabis. He goes by “The Futurist Pharmacist” — not as a speaking-circuit label, but as a description of where he actually works: at the pharmacy counter, filling prescriptions, and in the research lab studying medical pharmacology.
Unlike health-tech futurists who write and speak about the industry from the outside, Karamangil has spent more than 15 years running a community pharmacy in Turkey. He holds a five-year pharmacy degree — the standard route to pharmacist licensure in Turkey — from Anadolu University Faculty of Pharmacy (2010), and completed an integrated doctorate in Medical Pharmacology at Ondokuz Mayıs University (2023), with a research focus on psychopharmacology and schizophrenia. That combination — daily patient-facing practice plus academic research training — is what separates his perspective from generic “future of healthcare” commentary: every claim he makes about AI in pharmacy is tested against what actually happens behind the counter.
In 2018, Karamangil founded Farmosfer as the working expression of that “Futurist Pharmacist” outlook. Today it is one of the only Turkish-language platforms dedicated entirely to the intersection of pharmacy, AI, and digital health — covering practical AI workflows for pharmacists (including how tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini fit into daily pharmacy work), medical cannabis pharmacology and regulation, rational drug use, and career development for the next generation of pharmacists. He speaks regularly at universities and pharmacist chambers across Turkey on “AI in the Pharmacy” (Eczanede Yapay Zeka), and authored Tıbbi Kenevir Rehberi (Medical Cannabis Guide: Pharmaceutical, Clinical, and Regulatory Approaches), ISBN 978-625-00-6637-9.
His focus for international audiences: Turkey has one of the world’s larger, most under-represented pharmacist populations, and its pharmacy-AI conversation is happening almost entirely outside the English-language discourse. Karamangil’s work brings that practitioner voice — and the Turkish market’s specific regulatory and clinical realities — into the broader, largely Western conversation about the future of pharmacy.
